AGE IS ONLY A NUMBER
I remember as a young girl seeing my mom go to the gym with her leather weight belt thinking she was the most amazing thing ever. Cool, fit and always looked amazing. She was 35 at that time, the same age I started weightlifting. That is almost 10 years ago, and
I can’t believe how much I have learned since that day I lifted that weight.
To this day I understand the fear of being in a male dominated weight room is not ideal for most and surely not a way to start if you have never lifted a weight before. I, was not one that liked being on the floor with men who grunted loud and slammed weights and had wandering eyes. But I was able to lock that out and get my work out done. Initially this worked for me, until I felt stuck and lonely and out of place not knowing how to manage my workouts and feeling like something was missing.
I was a member of a large chain gym at that time 4 years ago and I felt I needed something more but kept on with my routine and didn’t think too much about it until Pherform! My journey to becoming a member was a dare!
I was dared to try the 7-day trial by Alex De Fina (Founder of Bikini Fit & Pherform). I will be honest my first impression of working out with only women, at that time, had the opposite effect. I had finally become comfortable with training on my own, I had results, was gaining muscle, looked good. How can a women’s gym help me keep my fitness up, why would I want to share space with so many people and will I be able to mix with the all women community?
From Day One I was very impressed and shocked at how the gym ran and how amazing everyone was. The challenging strength classes, the supportive coaches, the environment, and the wonderful ladies. WOW, I was hooked and never went back!
Funny to think I was sure it wasn’t for me and in the end, it was just what I needed.
I was surprised at the programming and the focus on women’s bodies and how we need to have specific training modules. Not only was I learning to work out a different way, I was also learning more about my body as a woman and how my previous training was very cookie cutter which had no systems for the changes I was going through along with the factor of aging and lifting.
On top of this during my first year at Pherform I had two Dexa Scans done. The first, soon after I started and second, 6 months later. The changes in my bone density during that time were quite substantial and was told that the strength and conditioning classes were having positive effects on my bones and my overall health.
Now I almost in my Mid- 40s, close to reaching Perimenopause and having the programming with Pherform right now is crucial to keep up my fitness at this age, having coaches understand what we are going through internally is such a special part of what Pherform is about. A true community, where you can train and be supported whether 15, 25, 35, 45 or 55!
