TRAINING THROUGH PREGNANCY: THE FIRST TRIMESTER
Being a Female Specific Training Gym, we are often leading our members in training through their pregnancy journeys - in fact we have quite a few babies-on-board at the moment.
While our coaches are knowledgable and experienced in Prenatal training, we believe our core value of community has you feeling cared for and supported in this often rollercoaster of a journey.
First Trimester Tips
You may not feel like sharing your news publicly yet, but it is a good idea to quietly share with your coaches so we can best support you - often members tell us we’re the first people they told.
Let us in on how you’re feeling. In the first trimester, few modifications need to be made in programming but how you approach your workout will depend a lot on how you’re feeling and your current pregnancy symptoms. This is the time to really start listening to your body.
If your symptoms are mild, you can confidently continue training as per usual.
If fatigue and/or nausea are cutting into your energy levels, chat to your coach about taking the intensity down. If you’re really struggling, and your body needs rest, then we want you to rest! Keep the communication open with your coaches so we can best support and adjust for you.
The volume and intensity of your training will depend on:
Current training level
Pregnancy experience so far (pain, fatigue etc)
Goals and interests
Amount of time realistically available for training
Your training goals during the first trimester include:
Increasing strength
Strengthening the core and balancing the control of the pelvic floor
Developing a solid aerobic foundation
Promoting healthy weight gain
Yielding health improvements without over-stressing the body
Understanding that although some changes are not visible, you may feel a change when exercising (and that’s ok!)
Resting adequately between training sessions
If you are thinking about or currently prenatal and are interested in training in a supportive but knowledgeable environment reach out and see how we can help you during this time.
